To our Charlotte Water customers: Thank you. Thanks to your daily conservation habits and compliance with restrictions across Mecklenburg County, we are making real progress in protecting our regional water supply.
Recent rain has been a welcome sight, but Charlotte Water and other public water systems in the Catawba River Basin are currently in Stage 2 drought conditions. It takes more than occasional showers to recover from the deep dry spell we’ve experienced since last fall.
How will we know when to adjust our drought response? Charlotte Water evaluates three key metrics in coordination with the Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group (DMAG):
- Lake levels
- Three-month average U.S. Drought Monitor status
- Six-month average streamflow (currently reflecting the dry spell)
Real drought recovery requires steady rain over time. That’s why your ongoing partnership is critical. Please continue to follow these Stage 2 Water Restriction Guidelines:
- Gardens & Plants: Hand-watering, drip irrigation, and soaker hoses are allowed anytime.
- Vehicle Washing: Use commercial car washes only (home washing is prohibited).
- Pools: Filling residential pools is prohibited. Top-offs are permitted on Thursdays & Sundays (6 p.m. – 6 a.m.).
- Power Washing & Features: Limit power washing to essential needs only. Turn off decorative fountains unless they support aquatic life.
Outdoor Watering Schedule (6 p.m. – 6 a.m. only)
- Odd-Numbered Addresses: Tuesdays & Saturdays
- Even-Numbered Addresses: Wednesdays & Sundays
