Charlotte Water is repairing a 42-inch drinking water pipe at I-77 near I-277

Charlotte Water is repairing a 42-inch drinking water pipe at Interstate 77 near Interstate 277. The pipe was accidentally hit by contractors working on the I -77 toll road project. The pipe was damaged around 7 a.m. and turned off at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The repair may take several days to complete. Charlotte Water staff is actively working on a repair solution.

Water flooded part of the construction area. No interstate lanes are closed right now. If lanes are closed in the future, we will work to notify media and post on Twitter.

The break is not directly affecting water service to customers. Some customers in the central business district and other areas may notice slightly discolored or cloudy water. This is temporary. Customers can run cold water for a few minutes to flush it out.
